Every tool on GamepadTools runs on standard, open web APIs built into your browser — the Gamepad API for controllers, and WebHID for battery reporting. These are the same low-level interfaces games and native apps use; a browser tab has no special access to your hardware that it isn't already granted.
That also means everything happens locally, in your browser tab. There's no upload, no account, and no server processing your input — a reading appears on screen because your browser read it directly from the device, not because we received and returned it. Close the tab and nothing is retained anywhere.
Browser-based testing has real limits worth stating honestly: it can't read firmware, can't query some hardware settings directly (like a mouse's native DPI setting), and a couple of browsers restrict certain APIs for privacy reasons. We document these tradeoffs specifically, tool by tool, on our Testing Methodology page rather than glossing over them.
