Frame Rate vs. Refresh Rate

Frame rate (FPS) is how many frames your GPU renders per second; refresh rate (Hz) is how many times your monitor redraws the screen per second. They need to be reasonably matched for smooth motion — a 240 FPS game on a 60Hz monitor won't look any smoother than 60 FPS, because the display physically can't show the extra frames. Test both independently before assuming a hardware fault.

Can a browser really detect my GPU?
Yes, to a useful degree. Browsers expose GPU vendor and renderer information through WebGL, which is enough to confirm which graphics card is actually being used for rendering — useful for catching laptops that are silently using integrated graphics instead of a dedicated GPU.
Why does frame rate in the browser differ from FPS in games?
Browser frame rate reflects how fast the browser's rendering loop runs, which is a lighter workload than a full 3D game engine. It's a good way to test display smoothness and GPU responsiveness, but it isn't a substitute for in-game benchmarks under real game workloads.
How do I know if backlight bleed is normal or a defect?
Some light bleed at the edges of a dark screen in a dark room is normal on most LCD panels, especially IPS. It becomes a defect concern when it's concentrated in one bright patch, visible under normal indoor lighting, or paired with uneven color in that area. Compare against manufacturer return policies if it looks severe.
What's the difference between resolution and refresh rate?
Resolution is how many pixels make up the image (e.g. 1920×1080). Refresh rate is how many times per second the display updates that image (e.g. 144Hz). A monitor can be high-resolution and low-refresh-rate, or the reverse — they're independent specs.
Does this work on a laptop's built-in display?
Yes, all five tools work on any display connected to or built into the device running the browser, including laptop panels.
Can I test a second or external monitor?
Yes — drag the browser window onto the monitor you want to test before running the tool. Refresh Rate Test and Screen Bleeding Test in particular need to be run with the window actually on that display.
