A wired USB connection gives the most consistent readings across every tool here — it removes wireless latency and pairing quirks from the picture entirely. Bluetooth works for most tests, but if a result looks inconsistent, plug in a cable before assuming the hardware is at fault. Battery Check specifically needs WebHID, which is only available in Chromium browsers (Chrome, Edge, Opera).

Which browsers support gamepad testing?

Chrome, Edge, and Opera have the most complete and consistent Gamepad API support. Firefox works for most tools but can map some controllers non-standardly. Safari has the most limited support and doesn't support WebHID, so Battery Check won't work there.

Does this work with PS5, Xbox, Switch and generic PC controllers?

Yes. The Gamepad API is standardized, so DualSense, DualSense Edge, DualShock 4, Xbox Series and Xbox One controllers, the Switch Pro Controller, and most generic PC pads are all supported the same way.

Why do two different tools show different-looking results for the same stick?

Each tool isolates a different property. Joystick Test shows raw X/Y position and centering, while Dead Zone Test shows how much of that movement your system currently ignores. A stick can look fine on one and still reveal a problem on the other — that's the point of testing them separately.
